Watch as Fr. Sebastian goes through the four arguments against “being Catholic” in public:
- “I am elected to represent others. Therefore I am acting at the behest of others.”
- “Just because it’s right for me, doesn’t mean it’s right for everyone. Who am to judge?”
- “Other people don’t share my faith, so I cannot impose my faith on others.”
- “Just because it’s wrong doesn’t mean there should be a law against it?”
Fr. Sebastian then gets specific with how the receiving of sacraments publicly should be addressed and what we, as lay faithful, can do.

Biography
Fr. Sebastian Walshe, O.Praem. (Host)
Originally from Pasadena, Fr. Sebastian Walshe is a Norbertine Canon of the Abbey of St. Michael in the Diocese of Orange, California, where he is a professor of philosophy for the seminary program. After completing his studies at Thomas Aquinas College in California, he continued studies at The Catholic University of America in Washington D.C., receiving a license in Philosophy. Later, he attended the Pontifical University of St. Thomas at Rome (the Angelicum) where he received a Masters in Sacred Theology and a Doctorate in Philosophy. His thesis was entitled: “The Primacy of the Common Good as the Root of Personal Dignity in the Doctrine of St. Thomas Aquinas.” From 2003-2005, Fr. Sebastian was also a visiting professor in the Philosophy Department at the Angelicum.

He eventually earned his License in philosophy from Catholic University and entered the Norbertine Abbey, where he studied at the Angelicum in Rome, earning a Ph.D. in Philosophy and an M.A. in Theology, teaching at the university while finishing his degree. But don’t let his education or professional experience overwhelm you, there is a reason Fr. Sebastian is a sought-after spiritual director and retreat master—He is an exceptionally gifted and down-to-earth speaker, inspiring in his kindness and refreshing in his clarity of thought. BIOGRAPHY
Fr. Ambrose Criste, O.Praem. (Moderator)
Fr. Ambrose grew up in Denver Colorado, the middle of three children. He attended Regis Jesuit High School, the all-boys Catholic preparatory school run by the Jesuit Fathers, and then went on to Colorado College, where he received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Classics, History, and Political Science. He won the Rhodes Scholarship, and so continued his education at Oxford University in England. Hearing the call to the religious life and the priesthood, he began visiting religious communities, including several of the Norbertine Canons Regular. He entered St. Michael’s Abbey of the Norbertine Fathers in Orange County, California, and eventually pursued his priestly studies in Rome, where he received the degree of Bachelor of Sacred Theology from the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas (the Angelicum), and then the License in Sacred Theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University.
Fr. Ambrose made his final profession in 2006, and was ordained a priest in 2008. He lives at St. Michael’s Abbey, the monastery of his profession, where he is the novice master, the master of the junior-professed, and the vocations director. The Norbertine Canons there at St. Michael’s rejoice to have a large, young, and thriving religious community with many worthy vocations and a magnificent canonical life.
