A Message of Encouragement from Fr. Claude

When we fast, we increase the capacity of our souls to be generous with others. We increase the capacity of our souls to share the goods that we have received from God.

The Abundance of Fasting

In this brief encouragement from Fr. Claude--recorded from Rome, where he is currently missioned--he reflects on the spiritual good that fasting can accomplish. When we deny ourselves these natural goods of food and drink, we not only restrain our passions and unruly inclinations, but (more importantly!) we also increase the capacity of our souls to be generous with others. We increase the capacity of our souls to share the goods that we have received from God.

Support the Work of the Abbey

As Fr. Claude mentions in his short message, we have been so edified and encouraged by the outpouring of responses from the program so far. It is clear that this program is already yeilding significant spiritual fruit, thanks be to God, and we are honored to continue this journey with you.

This feedback is a reminder that we do not do our work alone. Our work is made possible by the grace of God, and by the prayers and support of faithful men and women from around the world. Specifically, we owe a great debt of gratitude of the members of the Abbot's Circle's monthly giving team. Their generosity makes programs like The Great Fast possible; more critically, it directly supports the daily, ministerial work of the abbey, the formation of our seminarians, and the growth of our community.
