Michaelmas, 2024 | Thank You

As the evening sun passed through the rose window and filled our abbey church with radiant light, it occurred to me that God is working through St. Michael’s Abbey in much the same way.

This past Sunday we celebrated the feast of St. Michael, patron of our abbey. Our observance of this joyful and grace filled day, always a highlight of our year, was made sweeter and all the more powerful by the spiritual preparation we took together, and for which so many of you joined us.

Without hyperbole: we are overwhelmed by the uncountable blessings we have witnessed. Over 50,000 people followed along with us during our Novena to St. Michael in the nine days leading up to his feast. Throughout the weekend, our abbey received pilgrims from around the world—so many of which were young families—and the Church was packed to capacity on Saturday and Sunday for Mass, for the Rosary, for veneration of relics, and for vespers. Some 6,500 viewers joined vespers virtually. Throughout the day beautiful choral music, organ music, polyphony, and chant filled our church like incense. (There was a good bit of actual incense, too!)We are grateful to all who helped make this Michaelmas one of the most triumphant and joyful yet.
