The final guest for our series on Catholic education is Mr. Gabriel Castillo. A renowned Catholic speaker, educator, and host of the popular podcast Gabi After Hours, Mr. Castillo brings a wealth of great insight into this important and timely conversation.
Throughout his conversation with Fr. Ambrose, Mr. Castillo takes a sober and often uncomfortable look at the problems that beset contemporary Catholic schools--and what we need to do to fix them. Some of his best observations invite us to consider the perspective (and perspicacity!) of young people: What does it mean if we have basketball practice every day, but Mass only once a semester? What message does it send when the teachers at the school don’t know much about the Faith; worse, what if they clearly do not take their faith seriously? What does it convey when schools call themselves “Catholic” but consider “religion” as just another class to take?
In return, Fr. Ambrose takes a moment to talk about the Evermode Institute—its founding, its mission, and what it is doing to help right the ship of Catholic education.
