Novena to Our Lady, Queen of Our Order | Day Two

As Catholics, we do not forget the dead. We pray for them, remember them before the altar of God, and entrust them to the mercy of Christ, who has conquered death.

Yesterday, we began this novena with gratitude, giving thanks for the many graces Almighty God has bestowed upon St. Michael’s Abbey. Today, that gratitude leads us naturally to remember those through whom He has carried this work forward.

As Catholics, we do not forget the dead. We pray for them, remember them before the altar of God, and entrust them to the mercy of Christ, who has conquered death. We also ask the saints in heaven to intercede for us, knowing that the Church remains one in Christ across heaven and earth.

As we continue our preparation for the abbatial election, today we remember all the faithful departed connected to our abbey: the deceased abbots, canons, benefactors, family members, and friends who have gone before us marked with the sign of faith. We thank God for their fidelity, their sacrifices, and the inheritance they have handed on to us. Much of what we now enjoy at St. Michael’s Abbey rests upon foundations they helped to lay through their prayers, labor, generosity, and perseverance.

May the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. And may those who now behold the face of God intercede for St. Michael’s Abbey as we prepare to elect a new abbot according to His holy will.
